First day
Well today was the second first day of school for the grandchildren. Due to an issue with the school district here they had to change schools 3 weeks into the year. Yeah, they all three had mixed feelings. They were excited yet apprehensive about this morning. They all make friends very well but like all kids I am sure they have the fear that nobody will like them for some stupid reason and they will not have any friends. But I am sure they will all come home from school this afternoon full of stories and all sorts of new friends.

Happy Birthday
Today is my granddaughters birthday. I can't believe she is 11 years old. It seems like just yesterday I was at the hospital the night she was born. She was this little bundle of joy. Now she is an 11 year old bundle of joy. I hope she has the best day possible at school. Her mom got cupcakes to take to school so all of her classmates could share in her birthday with her. I am not sure what she has ordered for her birthday supper. I know her twin brothers placed an order for their birthday last month for chili dogs. Which we had and they loved. But she has a more refined taste. She mentioned something about steak but since that is not on the family budget at this time. I think she will have to go with whatever is her second choice.
But to Kiayla, your Nannie and Poppy say HAPPY BIRTHDAY to you.

Baby Girl
Well my granddaughter is not going to be my "baby girl" much longer she is getting ready to turn 11 in just short of a month. But next week she is getting braces on her teeth. It seems like just yesterday when she was just learning to walk and getting her first tooth. I don't think I am ready for this rite of passage. She is growing up in so many ways and yet there are times when if I look real closely I can still catch a ever so slight glimpse of my "baby girl". Somehow I think there will always be just a little bit of Baby girl in her. Hey a "Nannie" can always dream.

I have been replaced
I got a telephone call yesterday from my granddaughter. She said "Nannie can I tell you something" I said of course Baby Girl you can tell me something. She then proceeded to tell me that they are getting a Nanny. They are going to have a lady come and stay with them while their Mother is at work so hence the Nanny. Well I started carrying on saying on no you have replaced me I move to Pennsylvania and now you are getting a new Nanny. She kept trying to say Nannie stop Nannie wait Nannie just a second. Well, I finally took a breath and she said it is not a "Nannie" it is a "Nanny" and she spelled each one out for me. I just love getting her going like I did cause she really falls into it when I do something like that to her.

Phone Home
Jill is getting ready to move to Holland and Randy and I are getting ready to move to Pennsylvania. OK, so our move might not be as exciting as her move but who cares? Yeah right Jill cares so what. But I know we are going to want to talk to her on the phone and I know from past experience when Jill was in Holland before there are days being a Mother and having your daughter that far away there are just some times when you want to talk to her. Calls like that can be very expensive to say the least. So as soon as Jill leaves and am going to be checking into getting some online phone cards. I know from in the past we used this type of card when we used to call back and forth from Florida to Haiti. Phone Cards Avenue can provide you with cheap international phone cards and this allows customers to save 80% or even more over regular long distance providers like at&t, sprint, and some other carriers. From my past experience I know this is something that I will need to do. I will not be content to just talk via the internet back and forth with Jill. There are just those times that I want to hear her charming bitchy voice. I could also use this card to call and talk to my grandchildren. Since Randy and I are going to be in PA and Joy and the kids are going to be in Florida I know those calls are not as expensive but when you want to talk to the kids probably just about every day that can get expensive. I remember when the kids were living in California Joy called one night at midnight that was when my granddaughter was about 4 and she wanted her Nannie (Me) to sing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star with her. So there I was laying in bed in the dark singing with her. So when you make those kinds of calls you know it is all going to add up in the end and the phone bill would look just like the National Debt.

Granddaughter's Pictures
I decided today to post a couple of pictures that my Granddaughter took last year when we went to Epcot for a family day. This is one of some fancy umbrella's that we kind of just did the edges for her but she saw the picture and decided that it would be a pretty picture. She was only 8 at the time so I think she really did a great job. But I am her "Nannie" so I would not say that I didn't think it was good. But she really loves taking pictures. She got a camera this last Christmas but it won't work and we can't seem to get the camera company to answer our e-mail's about it. But hopefully she can get it working and she will be able to really enjoy taking pictures.
This one was of the night fireworks at epcot. She was a real thrill to watch. She would snap a picture real fast and then look at it and you could tell by the look on her fact if she thought she got a good picture or if she missed the shot she was trying to get. This one she was really happy with and I thought she did a great job. This picture was taken with just a basic simple digital camera. Nothing special and no bells and whistles on the camera. I think if she had a real good camera she could really get some good pictures.

School!!!
I am telling you that I am a firm believer that there are teachers out there teaching our children that have absolutely no business in their job. My granddaughter absolutely hates school and she is only 9 years old. Particularly she hates to read. Well, this year is her first year of taking the stupid FCAT tests that the Florida schools require. If she does not pass the reading portion she will not pass third grade. It doesn't matter that she will not have had any F's on her report card or any D's for that matter. Well, her mother and I went about 3 weeks ago to talk to the school about this problem with her reading and the Principal jumped right on the issue and got her set up with some extra help with her reading and also sent her to the library and had the librarian work with her to see what books would really interest her so that she would hopefully enjoy reading. Well now I find out today that she hasn't been going to reading and she was afraid to tell us. But her teacher told her that she could go after this stupid FCAT test which by the way is next week. I am telling you she has just defeated the entire purpose. So I called the school and the assistant Principal is supposed to work on this issue tomorrow. But I think it just might be too late to actually help her at all. I hate the Florida school system. It is the PITS!!!
