New Math, Old Math.... I dislike it all

You Are Not a Dumb American

You got 8/10 correct.
You know a good deal about American history, but there's some basic facts you have wrong.
Time to go back to history class!
Are You a Dumb American?

Well, I surprised myself on that one. It's been some time since I was in school and the brain just doesn't remember like it used to. I prove that point every day when I try to help my grandchildren with their homework. Seems that they've come up with completely different methods of teaching things such as math. Whatever happened to carrying and borrowing when adding and subtracting. Apparently they don't do that anymore. Guess this is what they mean by the "New Math" that I'd always heard of. I hate it!

Bad Treatment at Walgreens

Have you ever been treated badly at a store? Well a few days ago my two adult daughters, my granddaughter and myself went into a Walgreen's to pick up a few things. Well I got a thermal mug that said it was on sale and when it rang up it did not ring up the sale price. Well, after much discussion with the cashier I finally proved that the mug was indeed on sale for the price I said it was. Then my daughter got her turn to purchase her items. Well they had signs in front of a brand of makeup saying that is you bought one you got one free. So thinking that she could stock up on some makeup, spent considerable time to pick out the things she wanted. When the cashier again rang up her purchases they said that most of the items she purchased were not to be on sale. We told them that there were signs in front of all of this brand of makeup. The cashier finally agreed to call the manager to the register. When he appeared he had a major attitude to begin with. We explained the situation to him and he went to check the signs on in front of the makeup. He then told us that it was in very small print on the bottom of the sign that it was only for lip and nail products not for anything else. He proceeded to tell us that it didn't make any difference where the actually put the signs it only mattered what the signs said. We complained that that was deceptive advertising and he really got a nasty attitude then and told us including my 9 year old granddaughter in front of a long line of customers to get out of his store and never to come back. He further stated that if we ever returned to his store he would call the police on us and have us charged with trespassing. Needless to say I have never been so embarrassed in my entire life as I was that night. So upon returning home my daughter called their corporate office and explained the situation to them and they said they would check it out and call her back. Well, that was almost two weeks ago and we have not heard anything from them. So I would just like to say that I will never shop at any Walgreen's again. There are other drugstores that want customer's business and do not treat customers the way we were treated.

Moving!!!

Moving is a very trying chore to say the least. First you have to go through everything you own to see what you want to keep and what you have accumulated over time that you have no idea why you ever obtained it in the first place and if you actually know what it's actual use would be. Then you have to get boxes to pack the stuff that you think you need and you will decide later down the road that you have no idea why you have still have some items. Then is the CHORE and I do mean CHORE of transferring utility deposits. This is an area where even God himself would lose his religion. I mean utilities are not something that if they are overcharging you for the deposit or for the utility that you have the option to go somewhere else to purchase said utility. The utility companies have a monopoly on their particular utility. Then comes the dreaded moving day! You never want this day to arrive in Florida in the month of August. But when it does and sometimes the law of averages catches up with you and you wind up moving during August you just grin and go on with it. You also sweat a lot and I do mean a lot. Then once you are actually moved in then you have the job of finding a place for all of the things you still think you need and that is not always an easy job especially if you go from a 9 room house to a 6 room house. It is like trying to get a gallon of something into a quart container. Something will always run over.

Shoot Fire and Save Matches

You might wonder where the name from my Blog came from. Well it came from a saying that I grew up hearing my Mother say all of my life. Well... She didn't actually say shoot fire but she had another "S" word that she used but I needed to clean it up for the Internet. So I altered it just a bit to shoot fire and save matches. Well I really never knew where she came up with this saying or why sometimes when something would happen or she would be mad about something that would come out of her mouth. Some times I find myself being more and more like my mother and that is often a scary thought. I now hear my daughters saying some of the things that I have said all of my life. They will look at me and say "oh good grief I am sounding just like my Mother" So I guess what I have just realized what I am saying is that we need to be careful. Because we are the living example in front of our children and our grandchildren. Just be careful you don't know who you are teaching with our lives in what we say, what we do, and how we act.

You Are Totally Anal Retentive

Yup, you're so uptight - people definitely have called you "anal."
You're the type of person who's so OCD you organize your M&Ms before eating them.
You have so many rules and rituals, it's hard for you to let loose and enjoy life.
So go ahead and mix up your alphabetized CD collection. Live a little!
Wow this is so me I actually do sort my M&M's by color and that way I can eat them one color at a time and save the red ones for last because for some reason they are my favorite ones. I know you are probably sitting there telling me they don't taste any different than any of the other colors but you can't convince me of that.

Picture from Haiti

My husband and I just returned last month from living in Haiti as Missionaries to the Haitian People. I will try from time to time to put a picture on this blog to show you how life can be in a third world country that is not that many miles from the United States. This is a photo of just a few of the people waiting for a clinic we were having in a village which they call Letant Two. We got there first thing in the morning and set up things as quickly as possible and as soon as we drove up (which meant driving through part of the huge lake) the people seemed to come from nowhere. We started seeing people about 8:00 in the morning and finally saw the last person around 4:00 PM or so and then had to take everything down and pack everything up in the two trucks we went there in. This is the first time this village has ever had any kind of medical team come there to bring them medical care. Some of the people had very minor issues and some of them had very major issues. When you have a clinic in Haiti you only are able to do the best that you can. Which is just what we did. We bathed children with sores all over their bodies from worms and gave our medicine to the families and help to ease their suffering if only for a short time. But the key is to do things for one person at a time and one day at a time. That is the best that you can do.

Wonderful Wednesday

Well today is Wednesday and I need to figure out what is wonderful about it. Let me see I am alive, I am not somewhere starving to death. I have a roof over my head. I have two wonderful daughters and 3 wonderful grandchildren. My husband and I live with our daughters and grandchildren. Yes at my age sometimes I think I am going to go crazy with all of the activity going on in the house but on the other hand maybe it will keep my just a little bit younger than some old person that lives in those adult only communities and wants nothing to do with anybody under the age of 55. For fear they might be too loud or to anything that they don't have enough energy to be too of. Don't know if that sentence made any sense to you but I understand what I am trying to say and I guess that is all that is important. Right? Right! But right now I would not give up being able to be with my family and to help with the grandchildren for anything in the world. So yes I do believe that this is WONDERFUL WEDNESDAY!!
