How technology has changed the way we interact

How long has it been since you have written a check for anything or used a telephone book to look up a phone number.  With the introduction of smart phones they became a source of portable technology and an accessory we carry with us everywhere we go. When is the last time you actually carried a camera with you to take a picture?  Now we always have a camera with us with the use of our smartphone.

4 ways technology has changed the way we communicate

In the past 50 years technology has been responsible for many changes in the way we communicate.  Many of the changes have taken place in the media as well as the speed of how we communicate.  Some of the basic means of communication have not changed and these are - thoughtfulness, clarity of expression, and good listening (Rosenthal, 2017).

Over the last ten years technology has made many powerful changes on communication, some good and some not as good.  Here are some changes that have had a big part of the change.

1.  Communiction abundance - It is less costly to have live, interactive conversations using many types of media which include Skype.  The downside of this is that being so cheap as to the point of being free people do not seem to give it much thought when they communicate this way.Online Meetings with Skype for Business, Formerly Lync

2.  Asynchronous conversations - The advntage of using e-mail is that it gives you time to think about what you have written before you hit the send button.  Writing letters has become a lost art so to speak when many people used to keep letters they received as keepsakes.  Now we fire off e-mails without thinking or editing them as many people read an email and delete it as if it is nothing important.

3.  Less face time - We have become more reliant on our mobile devices that we have far fewer face-to-face conversations with people.  When speaking face-to-face people tend to stop to think what they are saying before they say it or at least stop and correct what they just said to clarify it.

4.  Self-Expression unleashed - Because of such things as blogs and twitter along with many other social media sites practically anybody cah find an audience for what they want to say.  While Twitter is a great site for getting information out during a disaster it can also become a place for haters who just want to spew their hatred.

It is also possible for News papers to use Facebook to be able to gather informtion on a criminals which is how Facebook was used to gather information on Dylann Roofhe was the man who was arrested for the Charleston Church massacure (Robles, Horowitz, & Dewan, 2015).  Technology can help communicators in finding just the right information to create a powerful story. With the advancement of technology information is easy to gather from many different sources.Social media reveals gravity of Charleston shooting

Social media is an inportant tool for the distribution of news and information, but the increasing number of platforms along with messinging apps, which connect billions of people all around the world provide new opportunities fore gathering news (Reid, 2014).  People have a habit of posting all about the personal life on socia media accounts.  Social media is the center for gathering information for communicators.  It is usually pretty easy to obtain information from someones social media page no matter how private they think it is.
